Ken White came to HHM from a Rome, Georgia firm that valued his ability enough to name him President, Managing Partner, and Chief Financial Officer. His many areas of expertise include audits, reviews, compilations, individual and corporate income tax preparation, estate planning, tax planning, and retirement planning. In particular, his broad understanding of corporate income tax preparation has only been added to by his duties as CFO. His skill in that area has been of great benefit to his clients.
Ken takes a particular pleasure in saving his clients tax dollars, finding strategies to help them keep more money in their pockets. In addition, he invests time into helping them better their businesses. He gives them ideas on management strategies and points out areas that can be made more efficient through business consulting.
Ken takes a common sense approach to clients and takes the time to understand how they run their businesses. He is a true part of their teams during his work with them. He draws from his wealth of experience across multiple industries, including construction, real estate, medical, non-profit, cooperative, and small to medium-sized businesses.
Ken first pursued accounting because “I knew that no matter what business I went into, I’d know exactly how the business was doing and what areas needed improvement.” One of his most satisfying challenges is to find a way to do more than his clients expect. “When I look at a tax return someone else has done and realize, ‘Oh, I can save them some money,’ that lets me know I’m doing my job. I enjoy spotting things that may have been missed.”
Ken got his start in accounting for five dollars an hour, part time. His employer told him that he was free to apply for other jobs, so he did just that. He ended up receiving a full-time job offer from a wrecker company. However, his employer countered right away with an offer of his own.
“Then he said something that changed the course of my career. He advised me to stay in public accounting, and said that it would be a better long-term career choice than private accounting. I’ve never looked back.”
In his spare time, Ken is an avid student of history – especially Civil War history – and has spent many days visiting the battlefields around Chattanooga. One of his favorites is Chickamauga National Park. He’s a fan of most sports. The Georgia Bulldogs hold a special place in his heart. And one of his most treasured memories is of attending an NHL playoff hockey game with a client in Chicago. Most of all, he enjoys spending time at home with his wife and kids.
