Ladell McCullough is given credit for many firsts in Chattanooga. In May of 1976, she began her career with a local accounting firm and was the first woman to obtain a position there. In 1985, she became the first woman in Chattanooga to be elevated to partnership in a large CPA firm when she was named as one of HHM’s partners. She became the firm’s managing partner in 1996. This distinction made her the first female managing partner of a large Chattanooga professional services firm.
Today, Ladell leads the firm’s Accounting & Assurance Department as it strives for operational excellence in the delivery of client services. She takes an active part in audits, reviews, and compilations of financial statements. In doing so, she serves businesses in a variety of industries – including governmental entities and nonprofits. She is known as a CPA who adds value to the client relationship. She makes it a practice to provide clients with constructive ideas for improving their operations, accounting, and financial reporting.
Ladell enjoys working with local organizations that embody entrepreneurial spirit. As these emerging and startup businesses grow and begin facing challenges, she helps educate the business owners about bookkeeping, accounting, and taxes. She doesn’t see herself as just a CPA for these clients. Rather, she works to become a trusted advisor to whom they can turn to for problem solving and making critical decisions.
Ladell enjoys her role as a mentor to the young women and men of HHM. She aids in the growth of leadership skills through book clubs and in-house training.
There are times when she isn’t digging through a client’s financial records to save them tax dollars. In those times, Ladell often spends time on the lake with her son. They enjoy boating, jet skiing, and all kinds of water sports.
