CATALYST 2018 will bring together more than 200 Chattanooga community leaders open to the possibility of health and well-being through positive change.Mindfulness has found its way into the workplace, the classroom, and the doctor's office. What part is healing and what part is hype?Keynote speaker, Dr. David R. Vago, is an expert in the emerging field of contemplative neuroscience and will share with us what cutting-edge science is learning about how mindfulness works, why it works - or not - and what about it works best.Dr. Vago received his Ph. D. in cognitive and neural sciences and is Research Director for the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University and an Associate Professor. He has completed post doctoral fellowships in the department of Psychiatry at HWH, the Utah Center for Mind Body Interactions within the University of Utah Medical School, and the Stuart T. Hauser Research Training Program in Biological and Social Psychiatry. Dr. Vago has a number of research initiatives that are ongoing, including Mapping the Meditative Mind. He has spoken at international conferences and his research has appeared in the Boston Globe, Huffington Post and on NPR as well as numerous academic journals.In addition to his position with Vanderbilt, Dr. Vago continues to collaborate as a research associate with Harvard Medical School. He is also a research fellow at the Mind and Life Institute, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering dialogue and research at the highest possible level between modern science and the great living contemplative traditions.CATALYST takes place on April 11th at 5:30PM with Cocktails and Heavy Hors d'oeuvres.
